Mary Lou Damato of Elk Grove, formerly of Chicago, tap-danced her way toward the music and light on Nov. 7th after a long determined fight against metastatic breast cancer. She was 29 yrs. old, at heart. Mary Lou enjoyed a successful career in retail and outside sales but her most recent position and personal favorite was as bartender and manager for VFW Post 3579 in Park Ridge. Her passion for Chicago sports, travel, parties and cooking Italian favorites made her lively in spirit and a good friend to many over the years especially Roberta Schmitz and Marilyn Moskal. Cherished Aunt to Karen Okon Murtha (Brian), Thomas J. Okon (Joy), Dr Nicholas J Okon (Mary) and Julie Okon. Devoted great-aunt to Lauren Murtha Trach (Tim), Brian & Patrick Murtha, Joseph & Clara, Harrison & Sophie Okon. Fond sister-in-law to Harold J. Okon. Loving cousin to the Damato, Gentile, and Craig families. Italian cousins to the Rago, Larson and Costana families. Preceded in death by her sister Diane Damato Okon, brother Nicholas J. Damato and parents Nicholas J. and Theresa A. Damato. Visitation on Friday Nov. 11th from 4-8PM, Grove Memorial Chapel 1199 S Arlington Heights Rd, Elk Grove Village. (1996); loving mother of Robert (Lynn) Barone, the late Tina (John) Carlson and Lisa (Jay) Barker; cherished grandmother of Anthony, Marinna, Marissa, Amanda, Noah, John, Benjamin and Carly; dear sister of Letizia, Alex, Rita and the late Antoinette. (Matthew) Haas and Alexander S. Chen; and the dear grandfather of Ryan W. and Kyle E. Haas. He was the beloved husband of the late Mary (nee. Capobianco, 1998); loving father of Marsha R. (Lester) Borek, John M. (Sharon) Geritano and the late Michael; dear grandfather of Paula and Philip (Angela) Geritano, Kevin (Sarah) and Shane Borek; he is preceded in death by his brother’s Frank, Christopher and Tony Geritano.
