Carol E. Kroger (nee Miranda), 78, of Elk Grove Village for 49 years passed away on April 2, 2017. Carol was the loving mother of John (Erin) Kroger, Elizabeth (Joel) Tringali, Ann (Vel) Vetri, and Mercedes (William) Vala; dear sister of Charlotte (Donald) Girolamo, and Maryellen (Gary) Krawchuk; and cherished grandmother of 11. A funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, April 6, at 10 a.m. at Queen of the Rosary Church, 750 W. Elk Grove Blvd., Elk Grove Village. Interment will be private. Services provided by Grove Memorial Chapel.

Joan M. Kortge  -  68

Joan M. Kortge of Elk Grove Village passed away suddenly at her home on March 16th at age 68. Joan dedicated much of her time to several condo association boards as Treasurer after retiring from United Airlines as a Computer Technician. Joan was born in Bartlesville Oklahoma, the oldest of five children of Eulan and Clara Lou (Clapper) Kortge. She attended Mary Queen of Heaven elementary school and graduated from York High School both in Elmhurst. Joan enjoyed swimming from an early age including spending many years as a lifeguard and swim instructor. She was also an active volunteer with the America Red Cross for most of her life. In her spare time, she thoroughly enjoyed knitting, crocheting and cross stitch. Joan was preceded in death by her parents. Surviving family members are her siblings, Patricia (Gerald) Glenn of Grand Haven Mich., Donald (Linda) Kortge of Pingree Grove, Kenneth (Kathleen) Kortge of Grayslake and Karen (Richard) Schmid of Glen Ellyn. Also surviving Joan are nine nieces and nephews. A Visitation will be held on April 1st from 1 to 4pm at Grove Memorial Chapel, 1199 S. Arlington Heights Rd, Elk Grove Village. A private burial of the cremains will be held at St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery in Palatine. In lieu of flowers, donations can be directed to the American Red Cross at
Theron "Fred" R. Jordan  -  89
Theron "Fred" R. Jordan, 89, of Elk Grove Village passed away March 28, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. Fred was born on April 27, 1927 to Uba and Roy Jordan in a farm house near McConnell, IL; attended classes at Northwestern Univ., and was a member of the Elk Grove High Booster Club for over 20 years where he served as past president and treasurer and was instrumental in starting many musical programs, pizza concerts, and craft shows. He also volunteered at the Sheila Ray Senior Center in Elk Grove. Fred worked in banking for 50 years. He was the beloved husband of Doris M. (nee Stephan) whom he married in Beloit, WI. on October 6, 1951; loving father of Michael (Debi), Stephanie, Beth (Kevin) Kroll, Luanne (Rob) Juberg, Donna (Ken) Stratton, Derek (Diane), and Andrew (Belinda); dear grandfather of Colleen, Melissa, Drew (Gena), Christopher, Lindsay, Jordan; and cherished great-grandfather of Felicity, Harrison, and Charlie Berkley. A visitation will be held on Thursday, March 30, from 3 to 9 P.M. at Grove Memorial Chapel. Chapel prayers Friday at 9:30 A.M., proceeding to Queen of the Rosary Church for 10 A.M. Mass. Thomas Allen Blazek, 62 of Elk Grove Village passed away in his home on March 20th, 2017. Tom is survived by his son from his first marriage, Douglas Glen Blazek of Roselle, Il. and preceded in death by his loving wife Michele Johnson Blazek and his mother Jeanne Miller Blazek. Other survivors include his father, Donald Allen Blazek of Springfield, MO, sister Barbara Dresser and her husband Jim of Waukesha, Wi; sister Mary Inmon and her husband Tim of Republic, MO; sister Linda Blazek of Springfield, MO; brother Paul Blazek and his wife Cheryl of Branson, MO and brother Joseph Blazek of Branson, Mo. Tom was a long time resident of Elk Grove Village, graduating from Elk Grove High School in 1972 and spent most of his life here. His hobbies included motorcycles, billiards and firearms. He had 40 years of service as a mechanic for Lindahl Bros. Excavating in Bensenville, IL. Tom left his job last year to care for his wife Michele as her illness progressed and spent as much time as possible with her before she passed, leaving him a broken man. Memorial visitation to be held on April 7th, 2017 from 3:00 - 9:00 p.m. with chapel service at 7:00 Grove Memorial Chapel, 1199 S. Arlington Heights Road, Elk Grove Village, IL  60007. Joseph S. Puzzo, 89, a resident of Schaumburg, formerly of Huntley, passed away on March 27, 2017 at Lutheran Home in Arlington Heights. Joseph was the lifelong beloved husband of Margaret M. (nee Canzoneri) for 70 years; the loving father of Jaqueline (Terrence) Bieze, Joseph Puzzo, and the late Leo C. Puzzo (1981); the dear grandfather of Nicholas, Vincent (Rachel), Anthony (Lisa), Patrick, Leo, Andrea (Michael), Benjamin, and Joseph; and the cherished great grandfather of Dominic, Olivia, and Bruce. Joseph is also survived by his devoted brother Michael (Joan) Puzzo. A visitation will be held on Thursday, March 30th from 9 A.M. until the time of service at 11 A.M. at the funeral home. Interment will follow at St. Joseph cemetery in River Grove.

Ed Helfers , 85, of Elk Grove Village for 53 years.  Born in Chicago he passed away March 20, 2017.  Ed was an Air Force Veteran and he retired from American Airlines after 37 years.  He was the beloved husband of Barbara Helfers for 53 years; loving father of Ed and Rick (Janice) Helfers and Nancy (Kurt) Migasi; cherished grandfather of Megan, Allison, Matt (Jessica), Samantha and Brooke Helfers, Katie (Vinnie) Soueissi, Cody Helfers, Rachael, Alex, Adriana and Ethan Migasi; proud great grandfather of Madeline Helfers; dear brother of Jim Helfers.  Ed also leaves many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.  Memorial visitation Saturday April 1, 2017 from 10am until the time of service at 11am at Christus Victor Lutheran Church 1045 S. Helen Matusiak (nee Koza), 96, of Elk Grove Village passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on March 21, 2017. Beloved wife of Mathew W. for 70 years; loving mother of Adeline, Stanley, Mathew (Patty), and Larry (Susan) Matusiak; dear grandma of Mathew (Miyuki), Mark (Katie), Michelle, Amanda, Lawrence, Lisa (Dan), and Tim (Julia); and cherished great grandma of Cailan, Eiden, Nicholas, and Lauren. Will Vitols  -  64
Will Vitols, 64, formerly of Norridge, IL passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loving family and friends on March 20, 2017. He was born August 1, 1952, to Aida and Vilis Vitols. He was the beloved husband of Linda (nee Cairns) for 43 years; loving father of Erik (Nicole), Vanessa (Patrick) McCormack, and Rebecca (Pat) D'Andrea; son-in-law of Joyce and the late William “Skip” Cairns; dear grandfather of Connor, Johnny, Arianna, Delaney, Athanasia, Kennedy, and Livi; brother of John (Gail), Arnie (Laura); brother in law of Peggy, Bill (Gloria), Jeanne (Bill), Mike (Linda), and Marianne (Eddie); godfather to Kristie and Dave; loving uncle and great friend to many. As a young child, Will spent many summers in the Northwoods of Rhinelander, Wisconsin, where his passion for fishing blossomed. His legacy will forever live on through the multitude of family and friends who will be fishing for the next big Muskie in his honor. Will’s other passion was deer hunting, and he enjoyed many winters in pursuit of the next big buck with his son Erik, along with his father, brother, nephews and friends. Will was proud of his Latvian heritage, and was always excited to share Latvian traditions with his family and friends. His sense of humor rivaled any comedian, and he always knew how to put a smile on your face with his witty commentary. He also loved history, and proudly knew “a little bit about a lot of things.” The foundation of love created with his beloved wife Linda enabled him to be the incredible father that he was. Will referred to the birth of his three children: Erik, Vanessa and Rebecca as three of the best days of his life. His seven grandchildren were the lights of his life, and his loving imprint has undoubtedly been left on each of their hearts. Will always remembered your birthday, and would be the first to send well wishes, prayers, and congratulations on the life events of each of his many family and friends. His life lesson for us would be to be take the positive out of each situation and fill it with joy and laughter. We would like to thank our friends and family for their love, prayers and support, also to Dr. Grad, Dr. Cacioppo, Marge and staff for their compassionate care during his courageous battle with cancer. A visitation will be held on Thursday, March 23, from 3 to 9 PM at Grove Memorial Chapel, 1199 S. Arlington Heights Road, Elk Grove Village. Chapel prayers will be held on Friday at 9:15 a.m., proceeding to St. Matthew Catholic Church in Schaumburg for 10 AM Mass. Interment will follow at St. Michael Cemetery, Palatine. Leonard S. Kosowski, 90, of Elk Grove Village for 57 yrs. died peacefully at his home on March 16, 2017. He was a WWII Army Veteran; a ret. machinist at Helene-Curtis Inds. for 42 yrs. where he also worked as the company Fire Chief; and former coach for Elk Grove Youth Hockey. Leonard was the beloved husband of Mary Lou (nee Workman) for 59 yrs.; loving father of Judy C. Stark, Kevin L. (Kyle) Kosowski, Gregory M. Kosowski, and the late Anthony B. Stark (1985); cherished grandfather of Lisa, Jennifer, Brett, Kara; and dear great grandfather of Brooklyn. Leonard is preceded in death by his siblings; Walter Kosowski, Sophie Job, Mary Specht, Jeanette Boruch, Anna Dailler, and Chester Kosowski. A visitation will be held Tuesday, March 21, from 3 to 9 p.m. at Grove Memorial Chapel, 1199 S. Arlington Hts. Rd., Elk Grove Village.
